History of the Gartner Magic Quadrant for BI

Analyst firm Gartner Inc. has produced a Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence (BI) vendors for several years. The BI market has changed dramatically in the past 5 years, with the emergence of self-service BI, new analytics approaches - such as Visual Analytics - and the explosion of interest in Big Data.

We recommend, license, and resell only the most productive, creative, and expressive visual analytics tools – those that we use ourselves in our consulting worktraining courses, and the managed services we deliver. They provide a powerful environment for interactive data visualization and the greatest return on investment for our customers.

The tool above was created to help Atheon employees, clients and partners assess this rapidly changing environment and to make the most of recent Magic Quadrants. The data was collected by visual analysis of BI Magic Quadrant images sourced from Google Images and then recording the co-ordinates of each vendor, on each BI Magic Quadrant image since 2007 in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The data was verified, visually, against the images of each Magic Quadrant, but there may be very slight positional differences due to the method - please feel free to notify us if you spot any glaring mistakes.
